Paris Paralympics 2024: Qatari athletes Sara, Ali carry country’s flag at opening ceremony

The Qatar delegation members participated in the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games' Opening Ceremony at the Place de la Concorde in Paris yesterday.

Sara Masud and Ali Arshad proudly represented Qatar by carrying the national flag during the event. Sara will compete in the women's shot put event, while Ali will participate in the 100m and 800m wheelchair races.

A distinctive feature of this ceremony was its location away from the main stadium, resembling the Olympics' opening ceremony by the River Seine in July, marking a first in Paralympic history. Leading the Qatari delegation is Dr. Hassan Al Ansari, the Secretary-General of the Qatar Paralympic Committee (QPC).

Supporting the athletes is their dedicated team, including Arshad's coach Nabil Al Musalmani, Sara's coach Walid Maghmoul, physiotherapist Anis Boughmoura, and technical expert Mohammed Suhail.

Arshad expressed his excitement at the privilege of carrying Qatar's flag, deeming it a historic moment for any athlete at such a prestigious event. Meanwhile, Sara conveyed her thanks to the QPC for choosing her for carrying the flag.
