Palestine sets sights on historic Asian Cup success in Qatar campaign

Palestine has arrived in Doha with a firm determination to make a mark at the upcoming Asian Cup, aiming to bring joy to their people back home enduring the ongoing Israeli onslaught in Gaza.

Coach Makram Daboub described the team's prevailing sense of anxiety for their families as they embark on their journey. The Lions of Canaan are setting their sights on their most successful outing in the continent's football showpiece, commencing on January 12.

Upon their arrival yesterday, the Palestinian players expressed their solidarity with compatriots in Gaza, where the death toll has surpassed 22,000 amidst unrelenting Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip.

Expecting overwhelming support from fans during the tournament, Palestine is grateful for the backing received from the people of Qatar. Last month's charity football match at Education City Stadium, aimed at supporting Palestinians, drew thousands of spectators who passionately showed their solidarity.

Defender Mohammed Saleh, whose family is trapped in Gaza, emphasized the team's dedication to giving their all for the sake of their martyrs, their people, and the Palestinian cause, expressing confidence that their voice would be heard.

Following the match against Iran, Palestine will face the UAE on January 18 and Hong Kong on January 23. In addition, Jordan and Uzbekistan have also arrived in Doha ahead of the Asian Cup, gearing up for their respective matches in the tournament.
