Gujarat: A fire broke out at a
gaming zone in Rajkot, Gujarat, on Saturday evening, claiming the lives of 24 individuals.
The blaze, which erupted under unclear circumstances, left charred bodies that
are challenging to identify, according to Assistant Commissioner of Police
Vinayak Patel. Relief and rescue operations are underway, with multiple fire
engines deployed to control the flames. The temporary structure's collapse and
strong wind velocity have hampered firefighting efforts, said a fire officer.
The tragic incident has elicited responses from top leaders. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep distress over the mishap, extending condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the injured. President Droupadi Murmu echoed similar sentiments, expressing anguish over the loss of lives, including young children, and wishing for the swift recovery of those rescued. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has instructed officials to prioritize the treatment of the injured and to expedite rescue and relief operations.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are
ongoing. Chief Minister Patel emphasized the need for immediate action,
although the exact reason for the fire remains undetermined. A message has been
issued to all gaming zones in the city to shut down as a precautionary measure.
Local authorities are working tirelessly to provide assistance to those
affected, and efforts to douse the fire and search for potential survivors
continue.
