A BJP leader from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, has orchestrated a unique wedding by marrying off his son, Mohammad Abbas Haider, to Andleep Zahra, a Pakistani girl from Lahore.
The couple exchanged vows in an online nikah ceremony on October 18, 2024, navigating various challenges, including visa complications arising from the ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan.
The decision for an online wedding was expedited by the serious illness of the bride's mother, Rana Yasmin Zaidi, who was admitted to the ICU in Pakistan. This led both families to embrace a virtual celebration, with the groom's family gathering at an imambara in India while the bride's family participated from Lahore.
The ceremony was conducted according to Islamic customs, with Shia religious leaders from both nations overseeing the proceedings. Maulana Mahfoozul Hasan Khan confirmed the validity of the online nikah in Islam, emphasizing that the woman's consent must be clearly communicated, which was successfully ensured through the virtual setup.
This unprecedented cross-border marriage has drawn significant attention, highlighting how love can triumph over the barriers of nationality and political strife.
