Eid Al Adha sacrificial sheep subsidy program begins today

Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), in partnership with the Ministry of Municipality and Widam Food Company, has launched a joint national initiative to promote local production and support the prices of sheep meat for Eid Al Adha 2024. This initiative, running from today, June 9, until Wednesday, June 19, 2024, offers two types of sheep: local and imported, both weighing 40kg or more, priced at QR1,000 each.

Eligibility for the initiative is restricted to citizens aged 18 and above, who can purchase one sheep per person by presenting their QID at designated Widam outlets located in Al Shamal, Al Khor, Umm Salal, Al Wakra, Al Sheehabiya, and Abu Nakhla. Additionally, there is an extra charge of QR50 for slaughtering, cutting, packaging, and carrying the meat to beneficiaries' vehicles. Specifically, the porter service costs QR34, while slaughtering and packaging incur a fee of QR16.

The primary goals of this initiative are to regulate the market during Eid Al Adha, provide affordable commodities, stabilize prices, and balance supply and demand. It aims to prevent unjustified price spikes in red meat during high-demand seasons and ensure a stable local market. For more information, beneficiaries can contact Widam at 8000056.
