Road fatalities drop by over 57% in July, continuing positive trend in road safety

Doha, Qatar: In July this year, the number of serious road accidents leading to fatalities dropped significantly by more than 57% compared to the previous month, according to data released by the National Planning Council (NPC). The report shows that six deaths were recorded in traffic incidents in July, a notable decrease from the 14 fatalities reported in June 2024.

Furthermore, the overall number of road accidents also decreased by seven percent from 647 in June to 602 in July. The majority of the accidents were classified as minor, with only 23 incidents categorized as major accidents during the month.

The statistics reveal that July marked the lowest monthly death toll in road accidents so far this year. Since the beginning of 2024, a total of 89 fatalities have been reported in road accidents, along with 5,164 traffic incidents, including 261 major accidents.

The positive trend in road safety has been attributed to the continuous efforts of the Ministry of Interior in enforcing traffic safety regulations and increasing public awareness about the importance of adhering to traffic laws. Additionally, the country's world-class road infrastructure and advanced traffic monitoring system have played a significant role in enhancing road safety for all road users.
