Doha,Qatar:
Dukhan Malayali Samajam celebrated Onam with grandeur in Qatar on Saturday,
21st September, bringing the vibrant spirit of Kerala’s most cherished festival
to life. The festivities kicked off with the arrival of King Maveli and
featured traditional performances such as Chendamelam, Pulikali (Tiger Dance),
and the graceful Kaikottikali, captivating the audience with the energy and
elegance of Kerala’s cultural heritage.
The
celebration wouldn’t have been complete without the traditional Onasadya, a
vegetarian feast served on banana leaves, offering attendees an authentic taste
of Kerala. Traditional games like Vadamvali (tug-of-war), Kalamadi, and Uriyadi
added a competitive and joyous spirit to the event, while a drawing competition
for children allowed young participants to showcase their creativity.
Addressing
the gathering, President Rafeeque and Secretary Philip highlighted the
importance of preserving cultural traditions for the Malayali diaspora in
Qatar. The event was a beautiful reminder of unity and the shared values of
love and harmony.
