Qatar's agriculture sector set for continued growth amid focus on food security

Doha, Qatar: The agricultural sector of Qatar has seen significant expansion lately, contributing greatly to the nation's food security and enhancing self-sufficiency.

According to a recent study by Mordor Intelligence, this positive growth trend is set to persist, with the market size anticipated to rise to $223.10 million by 2029, compared to an estimated $170.95 million in 2024. This signifies a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.47 percent throughout the forecast period from 2024 to 2029.

The upcoming unveiling of the National Food Security Strategy 2024-30 is anticipated to build on the successes of the previous strategy implemented from 2018 to 2023. The earlier initiative focused on four key pillars: diversifying trade routes and preparing contingency plans, minimizing food loss and waste, establishing reserve capacity for inputs and outputs, and optimizing crop, meat, and fish production within Qatar's limited resource base.

The new strategy aims to enhance sustainability within the agricultural sector by leveraging modern technologies and innovations. It aligns with Qatar's National Vision 2030, which seeks to bolster the nation’s food security and overall economic resilience.
