PHCC's 'Senan' program to promote dental hygiene in nurseries

Doha, Qatar: The Oral Health Promotion and Prevention Department of the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has launched the 'Senan' Nursery Oral Health Promotion Program. This initiative aims to improve the oral health of children in nurseries across Qatar in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. The program targets children below four years of age, addressing the high prevalence of tooth decay found among kindergarten students.

The ‘Senan’ program officially began with a workshop at the Ministry of Education’s theater hall, attended by 120 nursery nurses and representatives. Dr. Hamad Al Mudahka, Executive Director of the Preventive Health Directorate at PHCC, emphasized that the initiative will provide parents, caregivers, staff, and nurses with essential knowledge and tools to support children’s oral hygiene routines. The program, led by Dr. Najat AlYafei, focuses on instilling early oral hygiene habits and preventive dental care among young children.

In addition to promoting dental hygiene and healthy dietary habits, the ‘Senan’ program addresses common harmful oral habits such as nail-biting, ice chewing, and thumb-sucking. The program also plans to host an annual open house activity to highlight the importance of oral health for nursery-aged children, ultimately aiming to enhance their overall oral health and quality of life.
