Doha, Qatar: Qatar Museums (QM) has officially launched 'Village of the Sun,' a striking public artwork created by internationally celebrated artist Rashid Johnson, at the Doha International Airport (DIA) Park located on Al Matar Street.
The monumental piece was revealed by Qatar Museum chairperson HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani alongside the artist himself.
The 'Village of the Sun' features four grand mosaic-clad walls, each showcasing figures that blend recognizable forms with abstract shapes.
These figures are inspired by Johnson's 2013 Broken Men series, symbolizing a transformative journey from intimate self-portraits to broader representations of collective identity. The artwork not only honors the rich tradition of mosaics as both an art form and a craft, but also integrates this heritage into contemporary artistic discourse.
