Doha, Qatar: H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, inaugurated the 30th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family Conference, highlighting the significant challenges facing families globally amid four key megatrends: demographic change, migration and urbanisation, technological advancement, and climate change. Organised by Qatar Foundation’s Doha International Family Institute (DIFI) at the Qatar National Convention Centre, the two-day conference seeks to foster a global dialogue on family policies' crucial role in navigating these contemporary trends.
The event brings together global leaders, policymakers, and thought influencers, including Kosovo President H E Dr. Vjosa Osmani Sadriu, UN Deputy Secretary-General H E Amina J Mohammed, and First Lady of Rwanda H E Jeannette Kagame. In her opening remarks, H H Sheikha Moza emphasised the shared yet distinct challenges families face worldwide, including the effects of technology and the preservation of cultural identity in a globalised world.
H E Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, Minister of Social Development and Family, highlighted the importance of family values as a cornerstone for societal stability, with Qatar’s development strategies incorporating family-centric policies. Al Misnad underscored Qatar’s commitment to family welfare through legislation like the Compulsory Education Law and social services aimed at strengthening family units.
Conference sessions on the opening day explored the impact of war on families, men's evolving role within family structures, and global fertility trends. Today, a Ministerial Session will discuss Arab family policies in comparison to international best practices, curated by the Ministry of Social Development and Family, furthering Qatar’s role in advocating for family policies that address modern global challenges.
