Qatar Airways launches world's first Starlink-equipped Boeing 777

Doha, Qatar: Qatar Airways has made aviation history by operating the world’s first Starlink-equipped Boeing 777 on a flight from Doha to London on October 22, 2024. This marks a major step forward in in-flight connectivity, with Qatar Airways becoming the first airline in the MENA region to offer passengers Starlink's ultra-high-speed, low-latency internet, free of charge from gate to gate.


The national carrier plans to upgrade 12 Boeing 777-300s with Starlink by the end of 2024, with the entire Boeing 777 fleet to be equipped by 2025. The Airbus A350 fleet will follow in the summer of 2025, further showcasing Qatar Airways' commitment to offering cutting-edge technology and enhanced passenger experience.


Starlink, engineered by SpaceX, provides reliable, high-speed internet access even at 35,000 feet, enabling passengers to stay connected, stream entertainment, and work seamlessly. Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, Qatar Airways' Group CEO, expressed pride in the milestone and reaffirmed the airline’s commitment to transforming the in-flight experience.


With the launch of its first Starlink-equipped flight, Qatar Airways has achieved several industry-firsts, including:

• First Starlink on Qatar Airways passenger aircraft

• First Starlink equipped passenger aircraft in the MENA region

• First Starlink Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for a Boeing aircraft

• Largest passenger aircraft equipped with Starlink

• Longest range Starlink equipped passenger aircraft
