Polio vaccination campaign commences in Gaza

To combat the recent polio outbreak in Gaza, a vaccination campaign has been initiated, as reported by health officials. The campaign kicked off in Gaza yesterday, with plans for a large-scale rollout set to commence on Sunday.

The decision to launch the vaccination drive came after Gaza confirmed its first polio case in 25 years earlier this month. Local health authorities, in collaboration with the United Nations and various NGOs, wasted no time in implementing the polio vaccination campaign.

At Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, an unspecified number of children received the first dose of the oral vaccination, which requires two doses for full effectiveness.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) announced that Israel agreed to a series of three-day "humanitarian pauses" in Gaza to facilitate the vaccination efforts.
