New Delhi: A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a direction to the Centre to cancel licenses for the export of arms and military equipment to Israel amidst the conflict in Gaza.
The plea, represented by lawyer Prashant Bhushan, targets Indian firms engaging in such exports and asserts that India is bound by international laws prohibiting the supply of weapons to nations involved in war crimes.
The petition, supported by 11 individuals, highlights that providing military supplies to Israel violates India's international obligations.
"Issue a writ of mandamus or any other appropriate writ or direction to the respondents, Union of India, through its various organs, to cancel any existing licences and halt the grant of new licences/permissions, to various companies in India, for export of arms and other military equipment to Israel," mentioned in the plea.
