Nida Anjum Chelat becomes youngest athlete to complete senior category of FEI Endurance World Championships

Paris: Nida Anjum Chelat, a trailblazer in Indian equestrian sports, has made history as the youngest athlete to complete the senior category of the FEI Endurance World Championships. Held in Monpazier, France, the event saw Nida secure an impressive 17th-place finish in the prestigious 160-kilometer race, organized by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI).

Riding her twelve-year-old mare, Petra del Rey, Nida completed the challenging distance in 10 hours and 23 minutes, becoming the first Indian woman to qualify and compete in this category. The event featured 118 riders from 40 countries, including top competitors from UAE, Bahrain, Spain, France, and Italy. Nida's journey was marked by determination and stamina as she climbed the ranks, advancing from 61st in the first stage to an outstanding 17th place in the final stage.

The gruelling endurance race, held over six stages, tested the rider and horse as they navigated through rugged terrains, including ravines, water bodies, and dense forests. At every stage, horses were subjected to rigorous inspections by expert veterinarians to ensure their fitness. Nida’s consistent performance saw her move up the rankings in each stage, overcoming the competition and solidifying her place among the top finishers.

The individual event saw Bahrain take the gold medal and UAE the silver, while France and China claimed victory in the group competition.

Nida Anjum Chelat is not only the first Indian woman to complete the 160 km race more than once, but she has also earned the prestigious three-star rider status. Her journey in endurance riding began with her successful completion of the junior category of the FEI Championships.

Currently pursuing her Master's in Management and International Development in Spain, Nida holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Birmingham, UK, and an IB Diploma from Raffles World Academy in Dubai. She is coached by renowned endurance champion Ali Al Muhairi, who won the Gold Sword at the Abu Dhabi Endurance Championship.

Nida hails from Kalpakancheri, India, and is the daughter of Dr. Anwar Amin Chelat, Managing Director of Regency Group in the UAE, and Minnath Anwar Amin. Her sister, Fida Anjum Chelat, also supports her remarkable achievements in equestrian sports.

Nida’s extraordinary achievement is a milestone for Indian women in equestrian sports and serves as an inspiration for future generations.
