MoPH confirms Qatar's safety from Mpox amid global concerns

Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has confirmed that Qatar is free from any cases of mpox, previously known as Monkeypox. This has been achieved through a range of strong public health measures, including enhanced surveillance to ensure early detection of potential cases.

In a recent statement, the ministry highlighted that while these preventive measures have always been in place, they have been further strengthened in light of the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) declaration of mpox as a public health emergency. The MoPH assured that healthcare professionals across both public and private sectors are fully prepared to manage any suspected or confirmed cases.

The ministry also emphasized that the risk of mpox spreading within Qatar is extremely low unless individuals have recently traveled to regions in Africa where the virus is more common or have had close contact with an infected person.

MoPH remains vigilant, continuously monitoring the global and regional situation, and working with relevant authorities to ensure any cases entering Qatar from affected countries are detected early.

Mpox, a viral disease primarily found in Central and West Africa, can spread through close contact with an infected person, animal, or contaminated material. Symptoms include fever, rashes, flu-like symptoms, and lesions. While most cases are mild, the disease can be more severe in children, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems.
