Africa to receive first 10,000 mpox vaccines next week amid deadly outbreak

10,000 Mpox vaccines are set to arrive in Africa next week as the continent grapples with a deadly outbreak of the virus.

The Mpox virus, known for causing flu-like symptoms and pus-filled lesions, has been spreading rapidly in parts of Africa, particularly due to the emergence of a new strain, clade Ib.

Global concerns have been heightened by the situation, leading the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare a global health emergency on August 14.

The outbreak, which originated in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has now spread to neighbouring countries, prompting urgent calls for action.

Despite the WHO's declaration, Africa has faced delays in receiving vaccines, with over 70 countries outside the continent having had access for months.

The arrival of the first batch of vaccines next week marks a significant step in the fight against Mpox in Africa.
