M.E.S Indian School marks Gandhi Jayanthi with enthusiastic celebrations

Doha, Qatar: M.E.S Indian School commemorated the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, with great zeal and fervor. Students across all sections of the school participated in various activities to honor Gandhi’s enduring legacy of peace, non-violence, and simplicity. The celebrations began with special assemblies that paid tribute to Gandhi’s teachings and emphasized their relevance in today’s world. Students and teachers alike reflected on the values of truth, brotherhood, and self-reliance, which remain significant in shaping a better society.


In the KG section, the youngest students showcased their creativity and enthusiasm. KG 1 students participated in a Fancy Dress Competition, donning the attire of iconic figures from India's freedom struggle such as Mahatma Gandhi, Kasturba Gandhi, and Jawaharlal Nehru. Their vibrant costumes highlighted the importance of these personalities in promoting peace and non-violence. Meanwhile, KG 2 students took part in an elocution competition, presenting speeches on themes closely related to Gandhi's values.


The Junior Section also played a prominent role in the festivities. Ahmed Zayan's portrayal of Mahatma Gandhi captivated the audience, while students Aydin Rahman, Zara Fatima, and Muhammed Zayan performed a skit based on Gandhi’s 'Three Monkeys' philosophy, underscoring the timeless lessons of 'See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.' The Boys' Section took part in a symbolic event where 350 students formed a human charkha, representing Gandhi’s advocacy for simplicity, self-reliance, and unity through the spinning wheel.


In the Girls' Section, students from different grade levels actively participated in a variety of literary and art competitions. From Colour Pencil Drawing and Poster Designing to Essay Writing, the competitions focused on themes such as non-violence and the life of Lal Bahadur Shastri. Each activity aimed to inspire students to reflect on the moral and ethical teachings of great Indian leaders, further ingraining Gandhi's principles into their daily lives.

Teachers and coordinators emphasized the lasting impact of Gandhi’s values in their speeches, encouraging students to embody the ideals of truth and non-violence. The event was a collective effort, with the heads of various sections overseeing the celebrations, and the teachers in charge of Literary Activity managing the day's events. The students' participation and dedication to honoring Gandhi’s legacy made the celebration both memorable and inspiring.
