Marthoma College alumni celebrate Onam in Doha

Doha, Qatar: The Thiruvalla MarThoma College Alumni Doha Chapter recently came together to celebrate Onam, a festival that highlights the importance of friendship and human connections. The event was inaugurated by renowned Malayalam film producer Mr. Santhosh T. Kuruvilla, who emphasized that gatherings like this foster love, joy, and crucial human values. The inauguration was chaired by alumni president Mr. Anish George Mathew.




In his Onam message, Mr. Kuruvilla spoke about the true essence of true beauty, which is revealed through actions, drawing inspiration from the legendary demon king Mahabali Thampuran. Mr. Shiju P. R., head of the Malayalam department at Birla School, resonated with this sentiment, reminding attendees of the importance of spreading joy and care within the community.




The celebration began with a heartfelt tribute to those who lost their lives in the recent natural disaster in Wayanad. General secretary Ms. Nisha Jacob welcomed attendees, while vice president Ms. Sheela Sunny expressed gratitude for their participation.




The event also recognized alumni members who excelled in their 10th and 12th grades, with senior alumni members Mr. Samuel Varghese and Mr. Rijo Jacob presenting gifts to the honored guests.




After the formalities, attendees indulged in a traditional Onam feast, known as Thiruvathira, and enjoyed cultural performances and traditional games orchestrated by Aanavandi Beats.




The event was made possible through the support of committee members, including Jacob M. Mathew, Jenson Thomas, Sibu Abraham, Roney Mathew, Lijo Raju, Siju Sam Mohan, Raji Varghese, Jiji John, Joseph Varghese, James Palangatt, Sheen Cheryan Peter, and Bindu Jacob.


Overall, the celebration served as a heartfelt reminder of the community's strong bonds and the joy found in togetherness.
