Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas conveyed his readiness to collaborate towards achieving a "just and comprehensive peace" in Gaza during a phone call with US President-elect Donald Trump on Friday, 8 November 2024, as reported by his office. 

In the conversation, Mahmud Abbas congratulated Trump on his recent electoral victory and emphasized the importance of working together to attain peace grounded in international legitimacy.

The statement from Abbas’s office highlighted Trump’s commitment to actively pursue an end to the ongoing war, signalling a potential shift towards renewed efforts for resolution in the region. "President Trump stressed that he will work to stop the war, and his readiness to work with president Abbas and the concerned parties in the region and the world to make peace in the region."

Meanwhile, During his campaign, Trump emphasized a message of peace while also promoting his position as Israel’s strong ally.
