As Super Typhoon Man-yi approaches the Philippine authorities are taking urgent measures by ordering all vessels back to shore and advising coastal residents to evacuate. Predictions suggest that the powerful storm will strengthen further before making landfall, potentially causing "significant to severe impacts" due to its intense winds and dangerous storm surges.

The state weather agency has warned that waves could reach heights of up to 14 meters (46 feet) around Catanduanes island, which is expected to be the landing site for Man-yi late Saturday or early Sunday. This weather event marks the sixth major storm to strike the Philippines in just a month, resulting in at least 163 deaths, displacing thousands, and wreaking havoc on agricultural livelihoods.

With wind gusts reaching up to 215 kilometers per hour (133 miles per hour), the storm presents a serious danger to the sparsely populated island province. Interior Undersecretary Marlo Iringan reported that around 255,000 people have already been evacuated from areas at high risk of landslides, flooding, and storm surges. Authorities are urging residents in vulnerable areas to comply with evacuation orders quickly to protect their safety.
