Miss World 2023 venue revealed, Indian-administered Kashmir's majestic setting

The 71st Miss World titleholder will be crowned in Srinagar, the capital city of the Indian-administered region of Kashmir.

Julia Morley, who chairs the Miss World Organization, revealed this announcement on Monday during her visit to Srinagar. Accompanying her were the reigning Miss World, Karolina Bielawska from Poland, the winner of Miss India World 2022, Sini Shetty, and other beauty queens.

Morley expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “This is a place blessed with tourism. Honestly, I am overjoyed. It's quite emotional for us to witness such breathtaking beauty.”

Starting in November, a series of events spanning a month will lead up to the grand finale on December 8, where the Miss World 2023 will be crowned.

In June, India was selected as the host country for this long-standing beauty pageant, after initially designating the UAE as the host. The Miss World Organization shared its rationale on Instagram, acknowledging India's rich cultural heritage, commitment to promoting diversity, and dedication to empowering women.

India, known for its stunning mountain landscapes, has been intensifying its efforts to promote tourism in Kashmir, following years of conflict and unrest. The territory, primarily Muslim, is divided between India and Pakistan. Both nations claim full ownership, but they administer separate sectors, divided by the Line of Control.

In May, India organized a G20 tourism meeting in Srinagar, employing stringent security measures. This event aimed to demonstrate a return to "normalcy and peace" after extensive measures were taken in response to New Delhi's revocation of the region's limited autonomy in 2019.

Karolina Bielawska expressed her awe at the breathtaking scenery of Kashmir.
