Ministry reminds parents to keep children under 10 safe by preventing front seat travel

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has reminded the public about the importance of child safety in vehicles, specifically advising against allowing children under 10 to sit in the front seat while the vehicle is moving. The Ministry on its X platform referenced Clause 3, Article 55 of the Traffic Law, which states: 'Not to allow children under the age of ten to sit in the front seats of the vehicle while it is on the move.’

"Your vigilance not to allow children under the age of 10 to sit in the front seat of the vehicle while it is in motion enhances their safety,” Mol stated. This reminder references the Traffic Law and emphasizes the need for vigilance from parents and guardians. To enhance safety, using appropriate child restraint systems and ensuring children sit in the back seat is recommended.

In support of these guidelines, the Ministry of Public Health has initiated the Qatar Child Passenger Safety Program (QCPS), led by Hamad International Training Center (HITC). This program involves collaboration among various organizations and includes the establishment of a car seat check station named Ghalai, located at the Women's Wellness and Research Center and Sidra Medicine. HITC is also training Child Passenger Safety technicians to adhere to updated international standards.

Road traffic accidents are a significant concern in Qatar, being the leading cause of death across all age groups, particularly affecting young people. Annually, around 200 individuals, including children, die in car accidents, with many others seriously injured, highlighting the critical need for proper vehicle safety measures.
