UNIQ Medisport 24 Badminton Tournament concludes with thrilling matches

Doha, Qatar: The UNIQ Medisport 24 Badminton Tournament, a prestigious event organised by UNIQ in collaboration with New Vision Badminton Academy for Indian medical professionals in Qatar, came to an exciting close on Friday, September 6, at Alpha Cambridge School.


The tournament witnessed fierce competition, with around 50 teams from various healthcare institutions showcasing their skills on the badminton court.


In the Men's Doubles category, Midhun Jose and Abdul Sattar emerged victorious, while Anas Ibrahim and Dr. Shameer secured the runners-up position. The Men's Singles category saw Jayinto clinching the title, with Abdul Sattar finishing as the runner-up. 


Meanwhile, in the Women's Singles category, Ashna Basheer claimed the top spot, followed by Smitha Tony George as the runner-up. Dhanya Prajeesh and Denna Sabi triumphed in the Women's Doubles category, with Neethu K. Abraham and Merly Abraham as the runners-up.


The Mixed Doubles category witnessed an intense battle, with Mithun Jose and Neethu K. Abraham emerging as the champions, and Joseph Johnson and Dr. Dhanya Prajeesh as the runners-up.


The closing ceremony of the tournament was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including renowned badminton player Mr. Manoj Sahibjan, founder and chief coach of New Vision Badminton Academy; Mrs. Benazir Manoj, NVBS founder and CEO; and international badminton player Mr. Pavan Kumar KV, who were honoured for their contributions to the sport.


UNIQ General Secretary Mrs. Bindu Linson inaugurated the tournament, while the closing ceremony was presided over by UNIQ's Acting President Mrs. Smitha Deepu. The event was attended by several dignitaries and officials from various organisations, who presented medals, cash prizes, and trophies to the winners.


Exhibition match featuring prominent badminton singles players from Qatar, including Godwin Olufa, Yuvaraj Munuswamy, and young players Riya Kurian and Adline Mary Sojan, was also organised for the audience.


UNIQ Sports Division member Jayaprakash Kottilingal thanked all participants, sponsors, and organisers, promising more exciting sports events in the future to support and promote the sports excellence of the Indian healthcare community.
