Norway and Spain have formally acknowledged the State of Palestine, with Ireland poised to do the same today.
Prior to the Spanish government's endorsement of a decree recognizing the State of Palestine, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albarez emphasized in a speech , "recognizing the State of Palestine is a historic step that allows the Palestinians and Israelis to achieve peace."
Albarez underscored that recognizing the State of Palestine aligns with UN resolutions and does not target any specific party, emphasizing Spain's stance against any alteration to the 1967 borders without mutual consent from both Israelis and Palestinians. He reiterated that the two-state solution remains the sole pathway to peace.
Concurrently, Norway has also extended official recognition to the State of Palestine.
"The official recognition of Palestine as a state by Norway has now come into effect," announced the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.
The statement further disclosed that several other
European nations sharing similar sentiments are expected to formalize their
recognition of Palestine on the same date.
