Australia, New Zealand, and Canada call for immediate ceasefire in Gaza

Australia, New Zealand, and Canada have jointly called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. In a statement released on Friday, the leaders of the three countries expressed strong support for the comprehensive ceasefire agreement recently proposed by U.S. President Joe Biden and endorsed by the United Nations Security Council.

The statement highlighted the urgent need for a ceasefire to protect civilians and ensure the continuous flow of humanitarian aid throughout Gaza. It also urged Israel to respond objectively to the International Court of Justice's advisory opinion on the illegality of its policies and practices in the occupied Palestinian territories.

This joint call for a ceasefire follows a U.S. affirmation on the necessity of ending the conflict in Gaza, made during a meeting on Thursday in Washington between U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, a potential Democratic presidential candidate, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
