The
Chief Guest, Mr. Mutaz Essa Barshim, World and Olympic Champion in High Jump,
graced the occasion
Doha, Qatar: The grand finale of the MES Golden Run took place in a spectacular celebration on the synthetic track of MES Indian School on October 24th, commemorating the school’s Golden Jubilee with a landmark athletic meet. This event, marking fifty years of the school’s remarkable legacy in education and sports, brought together students, parents, distinguished guests, and school officials for a day filled with athletic competition, cultural displays, and inspiring speeches.
The Chief Guest, Mr. Mutaz Essa Barshim, World and Olympic Champion in High Jump, graced the occasion, along with the Guest of Honour, Mr. Irfan Ibrahim, a former Qatar national athlete and record holder in the CBSE National Athletic Championship. Special invitees included prominent officials from the Ministry of Interior—Major Saeed Juma Al-Hatemi, Mr. Saleh Salem Mohammed, and Mrs. Asmaa Mohammed Naeeme—adding a touch of prestige to the event.
In the opening ceremony, Mr. Barshim hoisted the school flag and unveiled the official logo of the athletic meet, marking the commencement of the celebrations. He took a salute from the contingents representing the school’s four houses: Blue, Green, Red, and Yellow, led in well-coordinated march by Sports Captains Master Mohammed Faneez and Ms. Steffi Vargheese Mathew. In his address, Mr. Barshim congratulated MES Indian School on establishing a lasting legacy in sports development, emphasizing the school’s success in nurturing young athletic talent and encouraging students to reach new heights on the international stage.
School
Principal, Dr. Hameeda Kadar, praised the students for their achievements in
sports, acknowledging their enthusiasm and dedication to the various athletic
events. The sports captains upheld the spirit of the occasion with Master
Mohammed Faneez leading the athletes in an oath to uphold fair play and
sportsmanship. Adding to the spectacle, the Olympic torch was carried by young
athletes and ignited by Mr. Barshim, assisted by Miss Namra, a talented
student, creating a memorable moment as the torchbearers were escorted by a
fleet of skaters.
The
event showcased an array of cultural performances, where students from all
sections symbolized unity and coordination through vibrant, visually
captivating presentations. A mass drill, aerobics, calisthenics, martial arts,
and yoga routines displayed by the junior students enthralled the audience.
Additionally, the school’s skating team paraded flags marking each year from
1974, the founding year of MES Indian School, to 2024, paying homage to the
school’s fifty-year journey.
The
athletic events continued with an intense 4x100m relay and the 100m races,
featuring students, parents, and teachers in an energetic display of teamwork
and competitive spirit. Dignitaries awarded medals to the winners in various
categories, adding to the excitement and joy of the participants.
A
host of dignitaries from the MES Governing Board, including Dr. Najeeb K P,
officiating President, Mr. Kashif Jaleel, Vice President, Mr. Hazmal Ismail,
General Secretary, and other board members, attended the event, showing their
support and pride for the school’s milestone achievements. Special attendees
included MES Principal, Dr. Hameeda Kadar, Principal of MES Indian School, Ms.
Pramila Kannan, Principal of the MES Abu Hamour branch, along with school
officials, parents, teachers, and students, all gathered to celebrate this
landmark occasion.
The
event was meticulously organized by Mr. Steeson K Mathew, Coordinator, along
with the dedicated teachers of the Physical Education Department. The ceremony
began with a warm welcome from Ms. Steffi Vargheese Mathew, Girls’ Sports
Captain, and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Master Ahmad Faisal,
Head Boy, closing the event on a note of gratitude and accomplishment for the
MES community.
