Doha, Qatar: The Old Doha Port successfully held the second edition of its annual Seabed Cleaning Initiative yesterday. This event underscores the port's ongoing commitment to restoring seafaring ecosystems and promoting environmental protection.
The initiative saw the participation of over 50 certified divers, who collaborated with key stakeholders to clean the marine environment.
Vital contributions from various partners made this achievement possible. ExxonMobil Qatar played a crucial role as a key contributor, while Green Energy conducted essential pre-event surveys to assess waste levels in the targeted areas. Additionally, Tanzifco managed the collection, sorting, and disposal of the debris, ensuring an efficient cleanup process. The Qatari Coast Guard provided critical safety measures for the divers, and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change offered logistical support, including boats and crane boats, to facilitate a smooth operation.
As a result of this collaborative effort, the team successfully removed a significant amount of debris from the seabed, including plastics, fishing nets, and other hazardous materials that pose serious threats to marine life and navigation.
