Doha, Qatar: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has announced the relocation of its Oncology and Lymphedema Outpatient Physiotherapy Department from the National Center for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR) to the Qatar Rehabilitation Institute (QRI). This strategic move aims to enhance patient-centered care, offering specialized services in a private and supportive environment. QRI’s advanced facilities will provide comprehensive therapy, including cancer rehabilitation, palliative care, and lymphedema management, with extended clinic hours from 7 am to 9 pm.
In 2024, the department handled an average of 838 referrals and conducted 8,723 follow-up sessions. The relocation introduces separate therapy areas for male and female patients, ensuring privacy and accessibility. A multidisciplinary team of specialists collaborates with Oncology, Hematology, Palliative Care, and other departments to provide tailored therapy programs that improve patients' independence and quality of life.
Dr. Hanadi Al-Hamad, Deputy Chief for Long-Term Care and Rehabilitation, emphasized that the move optimizes resources and strengthens personalized care. Mohamed Shafi, Head of the Oncology and Lymphedema Physiotherapy Department, highlighted the enhanced facilities' potential to reduce waiting times and expand services.
