Canadian officials have admitted to leaking sensitive information about India's foreign interference to The Washington Post, information that has not been shared with the public in Canada, according to The Globe and Mail.
The report indicates that Nathalie Drouin, Trudeau's national security and intelligence adviser, confirmed she leaked information related to the Indian government's alleged involvement in murder, extortion, and coercion.
This disclosure comes amid rising tensions between Canada and India, particularly following Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s claims regarding Indian government involvement in the assassination of a Canadian Sikh activist.
This information was not made public in Canada. During a session with the Commons Public Safety Committee on Tuesday, Drouin stated that she did not need Trudeau’s authorization for the leak and stressed that no classified intelligence was shared with the U.S. publication just before Ottawa expelled six Indian diplomats on October 13, coinciding with Thanksgiving Day.
