Doha, Qatar: The MediaOne-QIFF Super Cup 2024 presented
by Western Union - City Exchange, was inaugurated in grand style at Doha
Stadium yesterday, aligning with Kerala Piravi, the day commemorating the
formation of Kerala, India. Thousands of attendees gathered to witness the
opening ceremony, marking a significant moment for the global Malayali
community.
The event began with a captivating showcase of Kerala’s rural beauty, as traditional performances featuring chendamelam and folk instruments brought the crowd into the heart of Kerala’s rich cultural heritage. The Chief Guest, Alisher Nikimbaev, joined distinguished figures such as Indian Sports Center President EP Abdurrahman, QIFF President Sharaf P. Hameed, and MediaOne Qatar Executive Committee Chairman Arshad E. Together, they performed the ceremonial kickoff, officially launching the much-anticipated tournament.
In his address, QIFF President Sharaf P. Hameed
expressed enthusiasm for the Super Cup 2024, underscoring its role in bringing
together the Indian diaspora and celebrating the spirit of Kerala. Sponsors,
team managers, and prominent members of Qatar’s Indian community were
recognized, highlighting the event’s deep significance for expatriates.
This year, the tournament will feature 11 district
teams from Kerala, each competing for the championship title in a league
format. Matches will take place over the first five weeks, with the league
phase concluding on November 29. The tournament will then advance to the
semi-final stage on December 5 and 6, with the grand final set for December 13,
promising an extended celebration of sport and community.
